It is always something that I wanted to give to society. She shared her story about adversity, about being different and how she transformed this to a celebration of difference.
“It is always something that I wanted to give to society.”

I am a drug and alcohol counselor and I used to work at an outpatient facility for the dual diagnosis which is people who struggle with schizophrenia and drug addiction.

I grew up in a situation where my grandfather was a drug addict, and my mom was a drug addict so I know from experience how it can destroy you and just eat you alive. I got into that field because I felt I wanted to help people just from having experienced and knowing how it destroyed families and destroys who you are. Sometimes being a drug addict can be very addicting, hard to stop, sometimes you get consumed. It is something that I wanted to do, help other people and change lives and help with their sobriety and keep them sober.

I know the pain that they suffer and go through too. Even though I couldn’t help my family because they were at a point where they did not want to listen but I could help other people who are younger adults that are trying new things and to let them know that it is not the right path to go down.

It is always something that I wanted to give to society. Any little bit that I can.

When I was little I had a big white bear that my grandfather gave me. I loved all of my stuffed animals. I had a picture when I was a kid with me lined up in front of our fireplace with all my stuffed animals.
