“Like, I don’t take shit from anybody”

I grew up in a small town where it is half rich people, half country bumpkins. And then you have my family. We’re covered in tattoos and piercings. My parents are so young. I was raised on punk music and just everything different. When I started really expressing my style in middle school all these people would come up to me, I would get jumped. These people would hold crosses up to me just to see if I would burn. And honestly, it’s made me who I am today. Like, I don’t take shit from anybody.

And I’ve learned to really love myself because of it. I even have a tattoo to remember it, to commemorate that. It is the atomic symbol because I was treated like a mutant in school.

You know, it’s OK. I love being different. I love people coming up to me asking to take my picture. I love when little kids come up to me and just want to touch my hair. I love it all. It’s what makes life fun. It’s what makes life different.

I have a little black sheep, actually. Her name is Lindy. My dad got her for me in the hospital when I shattered my elbow and I’ve had her ever since. I was five years old and I’ve carried her with me to this day. She is my comfort. She reminds me a little bit of happiness, nostalgia and my dad. My dad and I are really close. I’m a spitting image so….I just love it.
