“Educating people that we are all human and we are all individuals”
Me being Indian and then growing up in London where it was predominantly a white area and facing adversity at a young age and not really understanding it caused me to feel different. And then when growing up actually educating people that we are all human and we are all individuals. You should be proud of who you are, even in my own community. I felt like I didn’t fit in because I’ve always been darker skinned.
Coming out here no one thinks I’m Indian, everyone actually thinks I’m African. So dealing with being Indian but not feeling Indian and then not feeling white in my own community so it’s about owning that and being proud of it, not feeling ashamed or hiding from it. Embracing it and feeling proud in being different. I think that’s one of the key things.
This cause me to travel. At 18 I ended up going to Africa doing volunteer work with poor kids. That’s why l’m here. I don’t have family but I love to travel. I love to learn new things and inspire other people.
When I was little I had a stuffed elephant. It was a comfort just having something you could hug whenever you wanted.
