“It helped me navigate relationships”
I’ve always been different because I grew up in a spiritual community on an ashram and my name is Rain and I used to get teased a lot for that. Some ready-made jokes, teasing songs, like, rain rain go away and all sort of things like that. As I’ve gotten older and become an adult if I didn’t have the strength that that community gave me to deal with life, with the perspective and the spiritual practice, I don’t know where I would be. I would be lost without it. I now am an actor and writer and artist.
It was something I was always teased for when I was a child and teenager and was challenged. There were young girls that I knew and friends that I had who felt threatened or offended by the fact that I have a guru but I couldn’t live without it.
It helped me navigate relationships with friends, in work, in life. My spiritual community has given me a lot of wisdom and my guru specifically has a lot of wisdom around the way relating to people, things, anything from death to sex to love and also trust and prior happiness, and the knowledge that prior to everything we are all always already happy, and that is a quote from him. His name is Adi Da Samraj.
I have a teddy bear that I was given when I was born by my grandma called Teddy that I still have. He lives on my bed when it’s actually made, sometimes. I don’t cuddle him anymore but he’s pretty special. His face is a bit squashed from when I put him in the washing machine. I’ve moved around a lot in my life. I lived in 28 different homes by the time I was 21. I’ve always had Teddy. It is one of the few things that I kept. It was one of the few constants in my life.
