“I guess I’m one now, an older person.”
Over 500 of us, and we were all over 50 were laid off from work and it was kind of heartbreaking. It was shocking because I worked there for over 30 years and was really good. Six years later someone remembered me and brought me back. I’m working there again. I feel needed again and valuable. Now I Look at aging differently, how it’s discrimination, simply for living and aging. It is kind of sad. I guess I’m one now, an older person.
I have a giant teddy bear by my bed and his name is Mortimer. I have had him since I was 14. Had him for 45 years. He is my friend. I was given Mortimer because I was so helpful to my grandmother. Took care of my grandmother, she had surgery. All the knuckles in her hands and toes were replaced so I was her hands and feet for about four months.
I never had a teddy bear and as a reward I was given this giant Mortimer teddy bear. I remember that story so fondly. He is right there beside my bed.
