“It was kind of a fuck you cancer moment”

Someone who embraces them self for being outside of the box is comfortable within themselves. I think I found that through hardships. I found being in my 20’s in LA, and having to figure out my own way, my sense of independence has come from supporting myself entirely. Finding out that I had lymphoma was an outer body experience, and for someone who is very comfortable in her skin and to not have much control over my own body and everything going on with it.

Recently, the process of losing my hair was much harder on me than just doing away with it at once, so I went ahead and did it all at one time, shaved it. It was a very empowering feeling to have control over something within myself again. It was kind of a fuck you cancer moment and I’m coming back for myself. And I’m on my way to healing.

I had a bulldog named Churchill that was one of those Ty Beanie Baby. He gave me comfort and a sense of security and something to talk to and help me figure out my thoughts when other people couldn’t help me do that.
