“Life is going to kill us all so we might as well enjoy the ride”

I grew up in South Alabama so being a nerd was not the best thing to be. I was totally obsessed with anime and video games. My older brother introduced me into it. He was 11 years older than me. But I never really met anyone who identified. I moved to the city when I was 13, The city in Alabama, which isn’t that big, comparatively. Still no one had any interest that I had. I was kind of Gothic as well. I would be kicked and spit on and hit and the teachers did nothing about it because they thought I was a Satanist or a witch and they were super religious and they really didn’t want to get involved. Not to say that I’m not religious but I really didn’t fit in.

And all throughout high school the same thing. I would dye my hair different colors and no one would understand. But when I got to about to a senior, Kashimaru Korona became popular and then people started to dress like I did. And it started being celebrated and then recently pop culture really brought the nerd culture out. But to grow up being made fun of and then all of a sudden be celebrate, it’s weird. But I embrace it and I think it’s fantastic that kids can be who they are today without really having fear of repercussions. Having things like Anime Expo and conventions to go to to show who they are and to express who they are. I’m in the military and I don’t know a lot of people who do what I do so conventions are what I look forward to. It is an escape from reality which I think we all need every once in a while because life is going to kill us all so we might as well enjoy the ride.

I have several stuffed animals. I’m really obsessed with cats. Im a crazy cat lady. All of them are near and dear to me. I travel with them all the time, which at 27 may seem a little immature but I find them as my companions so I really don’t see anything wrong with it. I was really attached to a Tentacle Kitty. It has a cat head and it has tentacles like an octopus. I brought that one with me everywhere. My older brother brought me an ugly Ragdoll cat that I travel with everywhere. Because it’s so ugly it is very endearing.
