“I do what makes me happy and with that comes success”
I was diagnosed with OCD in my early 20’s. Who wants an OCD tattoo artist, right? I ended up going to art school because of it and I got a scholarships in my junior year. I just kind of built it up from there. But coming here, this is a shop of girls, girl lesbians. I’m a straight guy. It makes things kind of different for me but I love it. Difference keeps life interesting. If something is the same you get bored with it. It’s not as new and exciting.
I’ve worked in 8 other shops with your big, mean biker guys and stuff like that. I’m sort of metro for s guy, I was more artsy than they were. I was a fine art major, so transferring to a tattoo was kind of different. Most of the people that I’ve worked with haven’t been artist before hand. Here they all are, so I kind of fit in a little bit better. I hang out at the gay bar now with my friends. We’re all family here. I would do anything for these girls. I love them to death. At first it was a little bit of a culture shock for me. But you adapt. Working for those other guys I was a definite outsider, coming here I fit in with these guys better that I ever have. I do what makes me happy and with that comes success.
I use to have My Pet Monster and the other was a pit bull with a biker jacket on and it had a mom tattoo on and I carried it around for a while. They looked cool and they were people to hang out with.
For the next 11 days I will be focusing on the people of Sandusky, Ohio. They were kind enough to share their stories with me. I met some amazing people and they make up the “Perfect Reject Stories of Sandusky”.
