“The purpose of life is to grow up, get a job, have a wife, have a child. That’s it”
I’m originally from Washington DC. I grew up in a really really conservative family. My parents are ministers, pastors both sides and I basically was the black sheep of my family growing up from start to now. I’ve always known that I was a little bit different. I’m the only one on the West Coast. We all do music but I decided to pursue it professionally and it has been the most amazing experience. I always tell everyone if you have a dream or a passion go after it and try it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do what you love to do, even if it’s different. Washington DC is a really really conservative place where everything is pretty much white-collar. The purpose of life is to grow up, get a job, have a wife, have a child. That’s it, you know. For someone like me I didn’t want to live that life.
Initially I went to college and I ended up coming back because I couldn’t afford it. So that was a bit of a downer. I thought that was going to be my life. I studied political science, oh my gosh. I went back to DC to try and find myself . Eventually I started on YouTube and and I found myself again, through art. It was the best thing I could’ve ever done. I’ve been a writer my entire life, thinking why not do it just as your occupation, your job. And now I’m doing it and I absolutely love it. It has been such an experience.
For me I say keep living, do your thing, do what you love. Make sure you follow your path.
I did have a stuffed animal. His name was Larry. I name everything Larry but he was my little friend. He wore like this little Christmas outfit. I had a little blanky I held onto too . It was a Mickey Mouse blanky. They were kind of my comfort, animals and friends that I held onto real tightly as a kid. I’m really really imaginative and creative and I would talk to my friends and stuff. Don’t tell anyone that. They kind of give me an outlet so that I don’t feel as crazy when I’m amongst the crowd of normal people.
