I took what I needed to take; my steps, my doors

I took what I needed to take; my steps, my doors. She is holding Wilson the bear named after Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, made by Nina R Salerno.

“I took what I needed to take; my steps, my doors”

I was applying for colleges and and I didn’t get into anything. All my friends got into whatever school they wanted, so like what am I supposed to do now? So I went to a community college. My friends were having fun, like going to universities. I felt behind this wall. They are at a university and I’m at a community college. I’m just below them, as it came for graduation for them, I was still at a community college. I had been at the community college for four years to the equivalent of them being at the University for four years and they graduated. I was still in school. They were out finding jobs. I’m still working at a restaurant. I’m trying to put myself through school.

Yeah I definitely felt like an outsider but thinking about it now, you know what, you have to go at your own pace. I’m getting there. I took what I needed to take; my steps, my doors.

I have this pink Power Ranger. My grandmother gave it to me when I was a couple months old and I’ve had it ever since. It just makes me…it’s home. I take it everywhere with me. But I keep it safe. It’s old and ratty. It keeps me going, you know. I always think about my grandmother, my family. Her name is Pinky.
