You have that unity amongst very very different crowd

“You have that unity amongst very very different crowd”

I was never into sports or anything like that, the traditional football, baseball, basketball or anything. Then I got into skateboarding and it actually completely changed my life. I did that at a young age and that later became a career. I got to travel all over the world and see a lot of really cool things and meet all of my closest friends. Friends that I have had for 20+ years. And it’s because of a little wooden toy, you know. It was something that I did just because I liked it. I didn’t like the other more common things that I might be pushed into as a kid.

Just finding skateboarding, you immediately have this acceptance no matter what. I listen to heavy-metal music and that’s pretty much all that I listen to then. Then you would be skating with some of your best friends that are into rap and all sorts of other things that seem very opposed to that, but you never even think of it as a different person or a different thing, it’s just, “we all skateboard”, so you have that unity amongst a very very different crowd.

It’s really cool now that I’m putting it into words, thinking of how I see other people and because of that being raised in that culture where it doesn’t matter what you do or where you come or what you like. It’s a bunch of individuals that found this and got together and know each other because of it.  We all have fun with this thing.

When I was really young I had a blanket, like 4 or 5 maybe. I remember having it and not wanting to part with it. I imagine it was some sort of comfort and not wanting it to be thrown away no matter how ratty and disgusting it may have gotten over the years
